James Kane (b. 1990, Baton Rouge, LA) received his MFA in Painting from Indiana University (2022), and his BFA from Louisiana State University (2014). His compositions combine archival and found photographs to explore the collective memory of queer experience. The paintings depict moments of tenderness, community, and camaraderie that raise questions about classic masculinity and homosocial relationships among men. He has been included in exhibitions in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Birmingham, Indianapolis, Chicago, and New York. In summer 2023, Kane’s work was included in the Mississippi Museum of Art's Invitational Exhibition in Jackson. He is based in Water Valley, MS.
